NATO-Moldova Partnership: Strengthening Stability and Security for the Long Haul

In a recent press briefing, Michaela Šimáková, the Chief of the NATO Liaison Office in Moldova, highlighted the enduring nature of the partnership between NATO and the Republic of Moldova. She emphasized that the primary purpose of this partnership is to contribute to regional stability and security. Furthermore, NATO member states are committed to making the necessary efforts to preserve Moldova’s territorial integrity.

Šimáková’s statements came as she presented key outcomes from the recent NATO Summit in Vilnius.

“We demonstrate strength and determination, and NATO reiterated its support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova within its internationally recognized borders and calls on Russia to withdraw all its forces stationed in the Transnistrian region without Moldova’s consent. One of the most important aspects of NATO partnerships is that they contribute to stability and security. It is clear that our security is not only regional. We face challenges that are global. NATO and the Allies seek to contribute to the efforts of the international community in promoting stability, security, and peace outside NATO territory,” stated Michaela Šimáková.

Several initiatives are already underway, including ensuring air security through protective equipment. We have conducted training and communication measures for law enforcement agencies. NATO will continue to support the modernization of defense sectors through NATO-Moldova programs,” added Michaela Šimáková.

The statements made by Šimáková demonstrate NATO’s commitment to maintaining a strong and lasting partnership with the Republic of Moldova. By actively engaging in security cooperation and addressing cyber threats, NATO aims to bolster Moldova’s defense capabilities and contribute to regional stability.
