Nearly 95% of graduates who were hired by schools and kindergartens through Moldova’s teacher placement mechanism between 2021 and 2026 have remained in the education system. Of the 2,195 young people who signed employment contracts, 2,083 continue to work in education.
Most of the young teachers hired in recent years have remained in the profession. The retention rate for the 2025 graduating class is 99%, while among those placed in 2024, it stands at 97%. For graduates from 2023, the rate is 92%, while for the 2022 and 2021 cohorts, it is 90% and 87%, respectively.
This year, 474 graduates were assigned to schools and kindergartens. By the beginning of the school year, 419 of them had already taken up positions. In total, 112 people have left the education system permanently over the past six years.
Most young teachers chose to work in Chisinau. A total of 878 contracts were signed in the capital between 2021 and 2026, accounting for around 40% of all placements. As of September 1, 2026, 855 of them were still working in education, representing a retention rate of 97%.
In Balti, 101 contracts were signed, with 91 graduates remaining in the system. In the other districts, 1,216 contracts were concluded, and 1,137 of the young teachers continue to work in education.
Preferences for certain subjects are also changing. In mathematics, the number of young teachers hired each year has increased from 10–11 to 30 in 2026. This year, 34 graduates were hired to teach Romanian Language and Literature, compared with 23 in 2025.
Young people choosing a career in education are eligible for several benefits. They can receive a one-time allowance of up to 375,000 lei and work a 75% teaching load during their first five years.
In addition, teachers at the beginning of their careers receive 4,000 lei per year for teaching materials and equipment. Those working in villages, district centers or Gagauzia can receive 1,000 lei per month toward rent. Annual leave can amount to up to 62 calendar days.
