Nicu Popescu at the French National Assembly: Thank you for your support

The Moldovan diplomacy head, Nicu Popescu, on a visit to Paris, has given a speech at the National Assembly of France, along with more French officials and goods friends of Moldova, such as Secretary of State for European Affairs Laurence Boone, the president of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the National Assembly, Jean-Louis Bourlanges, the head of the Moldovan-French friendship group, Delphine Lingemann, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.

In his speech, Foreign Affairs Minister Nicu Popescu highlighted the importance and the ways of speeding up Moldova’s accession to the European Union. He also focused on the progress made by Moldova in the implementation of nine recommendations formulated by the European Commission.

“We once again expressed our gratitude to France for the constant support of our country. In this context, I mentioned support for the organization of the European Political Community summit on 1 June. And for support for the agreement to reduce roaming charges. The Moldova Support Platform, initiated by France, Romania, and Germany, is very important. Thanks to this, our country managed to overcome numerous crises generated by the unjust war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine,” the minister said.

At the same time, on the sidelines of the conference, the Moldovan diplomacy head had meetings with the President of the French National Assembly Yaël Braun-Pivet, whom he thanked for the meeting at the parliament of France. Also, Minister Nicu Popescu met a group of senators led by the head of the Committee on European Affairs, Jean-Francois Rapin. In this respect, the Moldovan official welcomed the boosting of the political dialogue at the parliamentary level and expressed Moldova’s interest in the deepening of the commercial relations, which are already on the rise. The French senators positively appreciated the progress made by Moldova in the process of accession to the European Union. This recognition of the country’s efforts motivates the leadership to press ahead with the reforms and advance in European integration way.
