Nicu Popescu Discusses Moldova’s EU Accession Acceleration with French Minister

The methods to expedite the Republic of Moldova’s accession process to the European Union were discussed during a meeting between Chișinău’s Chief Diplomat, Nicu Popescu, and Laurence Boone, the French Minister for Europe at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Paris. The discussions took place on the sidelines of the Peace Forum.

Nicu Popescu reiterated that Moldova is ready to commence accession negotiations as soon as possible. The authorities in Chișinău are currently engaged in a comprehensive self-assessment process regarding the conformity of national legislation with the EU acquis.

“We are engaged in continuous dialogue with our French partners regarding the recognition of driver’s licenses and the signing of a social protection agreement,” mentioned the head of Chișinău’s diplomacy in a Facebook post.

“We also have excellent cooperation in the defense sector, with France assisting us in modernizing the National Army. We continue to rely on the strong support of our friends and partners in the French Republic,” said Nicu Popescu.

“I have also expressed gratitude for the participation of the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Catherine Colonna, in the fourth edition of the Support Platform for Moldova, held in October in Chișinău. Thanks to this involvement, including the generous support from France, our country has managed to overcome the numerous crises generated by Russia’s unjust war against Ukraine and will now focus on the development of long-term infrastructure projects,” highlighted Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu.
