Acting Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi stated on Moldova 1’s program “In context” that the accreditation of Russian ambassador Oleg Ozerov remains delayed because of “behavior inconsistent with diplomatic norms.”
“Ozerov is an ambassador whom we approved but have not yet accredited. His situation remains uncertain. He acts as if he were accredited, but we must respect diplomatic customs and practices. In some cases, his actions do not align with these norms. An unaccredited ambassador who has not presented letters of credence to the head of state holds a limited mandate,” Popsoi explained.
During the same program, Popsoi stressed that Russia’s aggression against the “friendly neighboring state,” Ukraine, directly affects Moldovan-Russian bilateral relations.
“As Moldova’s foreign minister, I aim to maintain good relations with all countries, but we cannot remain indifferent when such atrocities occur so close to us and directly affect us. We hope peace will return to our region soon and that the Russian Federation will resume its international obligations, including those under the UN Charter, to respect international law. Until then, we must adapt to current realities,” said Acting Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi on the public television channel.
