Brussels will make every effort to finalize the negotiating framework for Moldova’s accession to the European Union by 1 July this year, the end of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The Belgian Prime Minister, Alexander De Croo, made the statement during a meeting with young people from several high schools in the capital to discuss Moldova’s future in the EU. He was accompanied by Head of State Maia Sandu.

The Prime Minister of Belgium emphasised that the process of integrating the Republic of Moldova into the European Union is a long-term one. ” Despite the difficult circumstances, a lot of work has been done in recent years. Accession to the European Union is achievable, although it requires an extraordinary effort,” Alexander de Croo stated.

President Maia Sandu stated that Belgium, one of the six founding countries of the EU, strongly supports Moldova’s aspiration to join the European Union.

“It is crucial for the voices of young people to be heard in shaping the future of European Moldova, as they will benefit first and foremost from EU membership. The choices made today should reflect their desires and aspirations. I encourage the younger generation to actively engage in promoting European values, including in this autumn’s referendum. European integration is a national project that concerns all of us, regardless of political affiliation. It is about securing a peaceful, democratic, prosperous, and secure future for the next generations,” said Maia Sandu.

Yesterday, Alexander De Croo, the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Belgium, paid a working visit to the Republic of Moldova. During the visit, he met with the Head of State, Maia Sandu. The two officials also had a discussion with a group of students from several high schools in the capital about Moldova’s European future.
