Andrei Nastase was awarded the title of honorary citizen of Alba Iulia in Romania. The politician from Chisinau stated that he made the distinction “on behalf of the extraordinary people of the Republic of Moldova.”

The title was awarded on the 106th anniversary of the Union of Bessarabia with Romania. Nastase also mentioned the 1918 Union, during which Pantelimon Halippa and Grigore Cazacliu represented the Romanians of Bessarabia.

“The history of all Romanians united in our historical borders began to be written from Alba Iulia, in capital letters. Moldovans, or Basarabians as some refer to us, have the right to use and think in Romanian. We also have the right to democracy, the rule of law, and justice. We must do everything possible to preserve the rights, principles, and values that form the foundation of civilized Europe,” said Nastase.
