Popescu in Brussels: The Republic of Moldova is making progress in implementing the conditions for EU accession

Nicu Popescu had several meetings with high European officials. The head of the diplomacy from Chișinău is making an official visit to Brussels before the transmission, June 21, of the updated information for the European Commission Report on the enlargement policy.

The Deputy Prime Minister discussed with the General Director of the General Directorate for Neighborhood and EU Enlargement Negotiations, Gert Jan Koopman, the progress made by our country in the implementation of the nine recommendations of the European Commission. The Moldovan official also met with the secretary general of the European Commission – Ilze Juhansone, the secretary general of the EU Council – Thérèse Blanchet, as well as with the head of the cabinet of the President of the European Commission – Bjorn Seibert.

“I thanked the European officials for the assistance package announced by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, during her meeting with President Maia Sandu. This package includes the gradual liberalization of roaming tariffs, and support for the strengthening of Moldova, including by launching the new Partnership Mission of the European Union in the presence of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell”, declares Nicu Popescu.

In the discussions with the European officials, Popescu declared that although there are still actions to be taken, the Republic of Moldova has a high degree of advancement in the implementation of all nine recommendations of the European Commission. He spoke about the importance of boosting the accession process of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union in the public event organized by the Center for European Policies, noting that the heads of several diplomatic missions appreciate the progress we have in implementing the conditionalities for integration.
