In Chișinău, President Maia Sandu welcomed Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen and Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar.
“Just a week after the European Commission recommended the start of negotiations, our European partners have reaffirmed that Moldova is welcomed into the European family. It’s a powerful gesture that shows we have reliable friends, with whose help we protect our democracy, develop the economy, and build Europe here at home,” stated President Maia Sandu.
Discussions also addressed the situation in Ukraine, which heroically resists the brutal Russian invasion, thus protecting peace in Moldova as well. The President called on all democratic nations to continue supporting Ukraine.
Furthermore, the head of the state expressed gratitude for the solidarity of Austria and Slovenia and the development projects they finance in Moldova.
“We count on a positive decision from the member states regarding the start of accession negotiations at the European Council meeting on December 14-15. Moldova’s accession to the EU is our unique chance to guarantee peace, freedom, and prosperity for the entire country,” emphasized President Maia Sandu.
