President Maia Sandu Meets Outgoing Head of the Council of Europe Office in Chisinau

President Maia Sandu met on July 10 with Falk Lange, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Chisinau, whose mandate will end on August 1, 2026.

The president thanked Falk Lange for his contribution to strengthening the partnership between the Republic of Moldova and the Council of Europe, as well as for supporting the country’s reform agenda, particularly in the areas of judicial reform, the fight against corruption and money laundering, and the alignment of national legislation with European standards.

Maia Sandu highlighted the important role played by the expertise of the Venice Commission and the recommendations of the Group of States against Corruption (GRECO) in advancing judicial reform and anti-corruption policies.

The president also praised the cooperation during Moldova’s Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, which concluded in May with significant achievements for Europe as a whole. These included the agreement on the Management Committee of the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine and the launch of negotiations on a legal instrument to combat foreign information manipulation.

During Moldova’s presidency, participants also adopted the Chisinau Declaration on Social Rights.

The two officials also discussed the implementation of the Council of Europe Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova 2025–2028, which brings together cooperation programs supporting reforms in the justice sector, anti-corruption efforts, and the protection of human rights in Moldova.

President Maia Sandu reaffirmed the country’s commitment to continuing its close cooperation with the Council of Europe.
