The head of state, Maia Sandu, has revoked the citizenship of the controversial politician and staunch supporter of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Alexandr Kalinin, who is also the president of the Party of Regions. The president’s decree was published in the Official Gazette.
Alexandr Kalinin openly supported Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Since the beginning of the war, he has posted dozens of videos on his social media pages, organizing campaigns in support of the Russian military and pro-Russian armed groups in the occupied Ukrainian territories.
It is worth noting that in February, a criminal case was initiated against Kalinin for consistently supporting actions that undermine the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence of Ukraine, endorsing Russian military forces, and promoting symbols of the invasion.

Kalinin has also been included in the sanctions list imposed by several states and international organizations for attempting to destabilize the situation in the Republic of Moldova in favor of Russia.
Politician Kalinin previously served as the president of the Congress of Moldovan Diaspora in the Russian Federation and has been the president of the Party of Regions since 2016, a party formed in 2011 by the former governor of Gagauzia, Mihail Formuzal.
