Head of state Maia Sandu urged citizens from the diaspora to exercise their right to vote. The official specified that “Moldovans are like a family scattered all over the world, but which gathers together at important moments. With Moldova in our hearts, we go to vote!” Maia Sandu remarked.

“And I, and the Moldovan in Germany, and the Moldovan in Italy, Spain, Ireland, Great Britain or France, we want the same thing – for home to be good. Children should grow up in Moldova with grandparents, families should stay together, and the country should be safe,” Maia Sandu said.

The head of state also mentioned the importance of participating in the presidential elections and the republican constitutional referendum on October 20. “Moldovans are like a family scattered worldwide. But they come together at important moments. October 20 is an important moment for our whole family. Round 2 will not be in the referendum. We need a day to vote so we don’t have to wait 30 years. With Moldova in our hearts, let’s go to the polls!” said Maia Sandu.

Officials will open 228 polling stations across 37 countries for the presidential elections and republican constitutional referendum on October 20. They printed more than 850,000 ballot papers.

Most polling stations – 60 – will be open in Italy and another 17 in England. Romania will have 16 polling stations.

Moldovans in the US can exercise their right to vote at 17 polling stations. For those in Canada, seven polling stations will be open. German citizens will be able to cast their vote in 26 polling stations. For those in France, 18 polling stations will be open.

Over 1,800 Moldovans will vote by post. The highest registered citizens are from the United States, with 1,086, followed by Canada 580, and Norway 131.

Presidential elections will be this Sunday, October 20. A republican constitutional referendum will be on the same day. Citizens will answer the question – “Do you support the amendment of the Constitution with a view to Moldova’s accession to the European Union?”.
