President Sandu Discusses EU Accession and Bilateral Relations with Greek PM

The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, had a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of the Hellenic Republic, Kyriakos Mitsotakis. During the discussion, the President emphasized the implementation of reforms by the Republic of Moldova, progress that is also reflected in the European Commission’s report on December 8 regarding the enlargement of the European Union.

The dialogue also addressed Moldova’s desire to initiate negotiations for EU accession as soon as possible. This topic is set to be discussed at the upcoming European Council meeting in the middle of this month.

President Sandu and Prime Minister Mitsotakis also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations. Concrete steps in this direction include the planned opening of the Greek embassy in ChiÈ™inău in 2024 and the recent inauguration of the Athens – ChiÈ™inău flight operated by Aegean Airlines. The leaders also mentioned the continuation of cooperation in the energy sector.
