The Alexandru Munteanu stated that the energy sector situation in the Republic of Moldova remains complicated and that risks to energy security are real. He warned that cascading outages remain possible and that new attacks on energy infrastructure cannot be ruled out.

“The situation remains complicated. Cascading outages are still possible. And, unfortunately, we cannot eliminate the risk of new attacks on our infrastructure,” the Prime Minister emphasized.

In this context, Munteanu announced that he will propose to the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova to declare a state of emergency in the energy sector for 60 days to allow rapid mobilization of resources and ensure the maintenance of essential services. He also highlighted that global developments, including tensions in the Gulf region, put additional pressure on energy markets, further complicating the situation.

The Prime Minister called on all state institutions to move beyond routine operations and enter emergency intervention mode, stressing the need for immediate, coordinated action. “This is not a political moment; it is a moment for mobilization and consolidation. The state must be present, efficient, and firm,” he stated.

Munteanu also appealed to citizens to use resources responsibly, emphasizing that every consumption decision matters in the current crisis.

The Government of the Republic of Moldova approved implementing a state of emergency in the energy sector nationwide for 60 days, starting March 25, 2026, in response to the major risks facing the energy system.
