Economy Minister Eugen Osmochescu delivered a central message at the event “Reinvent Moldova 2.0,” organized by the Realitatea Media Group: prosperity is not a destination, but a state of mind. In his speech, he shifted the focus from traditional economic indicators to how individuals and society perceive well-being, combining philosophical and geopolitical perspectives.

The minister stated that “people are the greatest wealth of the Republic of Moldova,” emphasizing that the first pillar of prosperity is the individual—how people think and perceive reality. “Prosperity is not an end point we must reach. It exists in our minds,” Osmochescu said, arguing that change begins with mindset, not statistics.

Drawing inspiration from Marcel Proust, the minister paraphrased the idea of “discovering new lands,” explaining that true transformation comes from the ability to see things “with different eyes.” He urged society to learn from the past while staying focused on the future.

The speech also addressed geopolitical realities. Osmochescu described himself as a “convinced federalist” in line with the model underpinning the European Union, calling European integration the only viable path for Moldova’s development. He noted that the current regional context—marked by Russia’s war against Ukraine and broader global tensions—directly influences both the economy and public mindset.

According to the minister, prosperity rests on three pillars: the individual, the community, and the state. After the personal dimension, the second level includes society—the business environment, the economic ecosystem, and local communities. The state represents the third pillar, responsible for creating the conditions necessary for development.
