The Ministry of Economy held public consultations on the possible transfer of the tourism portfolio to its authority. Representatives of tourism associations, the National Tourism Office, and the Economic Council participated in the discussions, which Eugeniu Osmochescu chaired.

During the meeting, participants presented their key activities, ongoing projects, and strategic priorities for developing and promoting tourism in Moldova.

They placed particular emphasis on two pillars of the National Growth Plan: increasing tourist arrivals by at least 30% and implementing at least six capacity-building programmes for small and medium-sized tourism enterprises by 2029. These programmes aim to provide technical and financial support for sustainable practices, digital transformation, efficient business management, and social inclusion.

Participants also discussed the development of regional tourism potential, investment attraction, service digitalisation, and stronger cooperation between public authorities and the business sector. They additionally focused on creating cross-border tourist routes and positioning Moldova as a regional destination for visitors.

Osmochescu said that the tourism sector has strong development potential and argued that joint efforts between authorities and industry stakeholders could turn tourism into an important engine of the national economy.
