Moldova does not need external help, including Ukraine’s support, to resolve the Transnistrian conflict. Prime Minister Dorin Recean made this statement in an interview with Kyiv journalist Dmitry Gordon. He emphasized that more and more people on the left bank of the Dniester understand that Russia does not want the self-proclaimed region but rather seeks to maintain a conflict.
The prime minister also stated that neutrality will not protect Moldova in the event of a Russian attack. He added that defending the country requires public trust, not only military support.
“Moldova can and will resolve this issue (the Transnistrian conflict) independently. Let me clarify—there are many exaggerations about what’s happening there. I visited Kyiv, held discussions, and explained the situation. Moldova can manage it. We are following a peaceful settlement process. The 5+2 format no longer works, so we work 1+1 to reintegrate the country gradually. We don’t need external assistance to solve the Transnistrian problem,” Recean said.

He also pointed out that more residents of the left bank now work in the constitutionally controlled territory and realize that cheap or even free energy is not enough to ensure a good life.
