Regional Security Discussed in Meeting Between Moldovan Parliament Vice President Popșoi and Ukrainian Diplomats

Today, the Vice President of the Parliament, Mihail Popșoi, had a meeting with the Special Ambassador of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine responsible for the Transnistrian conflict resolution process, Paun Rohovei, and the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Moldova, Marko Shevchenko.

During the meeting, the officials discussed the security situation in the region, the prospects for advancing the Transnistrian settlement process, as well as cooperation and mutual support in the process of joining the European Union.

Vice President of the Parliament, Mihail Popșoi, who is also the Chairman of the Parliamentary Special Committee for Monitoring and Parliamentary Control over the Implementation of the Republic of Moldova’s Reintegration Policy, mentioned that Moldova’s approach remains the same – “we are dedicated to promoting a peaceful solution to the conflict in the Transnistrian region.”

At the same time, the Vice President of the Parliament reiterated Moldova’s support for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Ukraine within internationally recognized borders.

“Moldova remains fully committed to supporting refugees from Ukraine and provides them with temporary protection in line with the European Union model. This model ensures employment opportunities, access to healthcare and social assistance, as well as the integration of Ukrainian children into the educational system,” stated Vice President of the Parliament, Mihail Popșoi.

In turn, the Special Ambassador of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine responsible for the Transnistrian conflict resolution process, Paun Rohovei, expressed gratitude to the Republic of Moldova for the consistent support provided to Ukraine and assistance to Ukrainian refugees.

It is worth mentioning that, during the years 2020 – 2022, Paun Rohovei served as Ukraine’s Chargé d’Affaires in Romania.
