From autumn, the train for freight transport on the Berezino (Ukraine) -Basarabeasca (Republic of Moldova) railway section will reopen.
In this regard, on Thursday, June 23, the Memorandum of Agreement was signed between the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development of the Republic of Moldova and the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine on the development of railway connections. The document was signed by Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spinu and Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov.
Thus, the Republic of Moldova will be able to export / import goods through the port of Izmail, located on the Danube, reducing the congestion in the port of Reni. At the same time, through this segment of the railway line, Ukraine will be able to export goods to the Republic of Moldova and to EU countries.
„The relaunch of the traffic on the Berezino-Basarabeasca railway section will transform the town. Basarabeasca in an international logistics hub, through which the connection of the ports of Yushniy, Odessa, Chernomorsk, Belgorod-Dnestrovskii, Izmail, Reni, Giurgiulesti, Galati, Braila and Constanta will be ensured ”.
In this way, the port complexes will become more competitive, and the beneficiaries of the port services will have a more diversified offer.
We specify that the Berezino-Basarabeasca railway section, on the territory of Ukraine, was opened in 1997.
The construction of the section is to be carried out over a distance of approximately 23 km. Of these, 1.2 km of railway will be built on the territory of the Republic of Moldova.
