Money transfers sent home by Moldovan citizens working abroad reached the highest level ever recorded for the month of May, according to data published by the National Bank of Moldova (National Bank of Moldova), bani.md reports.

In May, commercial banks processed $161.07 million in remittances, up 23% (more than $30 million) compared to May 2025, when inflows amounted to $130.96 million.

The figure also surpasses the previous May record set in 2022, when remittances reached $152.63 million.

BNM data show that the upward trend has continued throughout 2026. In the first five months of the year, total remittance inflows reached approximately $815.2 million, compared to $657.8 million in the same period of 2025 — an increase of nearly 24% year-on-year.

April 2026 recorded $169.91 million in transfers, while March stood at $162.18 million, confirming consistently high inflows from Moldovans working abroad.

Statistical estimates suggest that around one million Moldovan citizens are currently working outside the country, with approximately 80 people leaving the country daily.
