Republic of Moldova Implements Law for 15% Annual Natural Gas Reserves to Enhance Energy Security

The energy security of our country is set to increase even further! This announcement comes from Radu Marian, a deputy of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS), who specifies that a law has been amended regarding gas storage to mandate the creation of annual natural gas reserves equivalent to 15% of the average annual consumption.

“We will build annual natural gas reserves equivalent to 15% of the average annual consumption. Other significant changes relate to protecting natural gas consumers in case suppliers fail to fulfill their public service obligation and introducing discipline in the free gas market,” wrote the deputy.

At the same time, Radu Marian emphasizes that the proposed law aims to:

  • harmonize national legislation with the provisions of the Energy Community acquis;
  • overcome challenges to natural gas supply security by enhancing the resilience of the energy system in times of crisis;
  • reduce the impact of potential exceptional situations in the natural gas sector on the national economy and ensure the supply of natural gas to end consumers;
  • achieve an acceptable level of energy security while ensuring the supply of natural gas to end consumers at affordable prices;
  • develop and modernize existing infrastructure to ensure the energy security of the state.
