Republic of Moldova, on the eve of the referendum. Useful information for the diaspora across the Prut: The second round will not be!

The Republic of Moldova is negotiating its accession to the European Union, an action initiated in December 2023 after the long-awaited verdict of the EU member states. The country has started its path toward the great European family, united around common political, economic, cultural, and social values. Moldova is working to become a country that respects people’s rights, aligns its laws with citizens’ needs, and ensures better living conditions and peace for everyone. In this far-from-easy process, the October referendum should confirm the European aspirations of Moldovan citizens. The acts adopted on the day of the referendum gain legal force once the Constitutional Court confirms the results and become enforceable throughout the Republic of Moldova.

In Romania, the diaspora can exercise their right to vote at one of the 16 polling stations that will be open on the day of the referendum from 07:00 until 21:00. On polling day, Moldovans going to the polls will receive a ballot paper with the text of the draft amendment to the supreme law of the country and the question: “Do you support amending the Constitution with a view to Moldova’s accession to the European Union?”. The voting options are “YES” or “NO”.
