Romania exports almost 1,000 MW of electricity to the Republic of Moldova on Monday morning, but the majority of this energy goes further to Ukraine, according to data analyzed by HotNews.ro. This is happening as the wind turbines installed in the neighboring country generate a massive amount of electricity.
Romania’s electricity production exceeded 9,000 MW this morning, with the majority coming from wind turbines around 10:00 AM.
These turbines contribute over 2,460 MW, especially considering that the entire eastern part of the country is under a yellow code for strong winds, snow, and blizzards. In total, Romania has installed wind turbines with a capacity of 3,000 MW.

The second source of energy production is hydroelectric power plants, producing 2,415 MW at the mentioned hour. Thus, over half of the country’s production comes from renewable sources.
The country’s consumption is around 8,200 MW, while the total production exceeds 9,100 MW, with the difference being exported.
According to Transelectrica data, nearly 1,000 MW are sent to the Republic of Moldova.
In turn, the Republic of Moldova covers almost its entire consumption (821 MW at the analyzed hour) from its production (721 MW) and exports over 800 MW to Ukraine, as shown by Moldelectrica’s data.
