Romania to Host 22 Polling Stations for Moldova’s September 28 Parliamentary Elections

For the parliamentary elections on September 28, Romanian authorities will open 22 polling stations for Moldovan citizens—six more than during last autumn’s elections. Victor Chirila, the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Romania, stated that most polling stations will be located in Bucharest—with five set up—and in Iasi, where three stations will operate, IPN reports.

Authorities will open two polling stations in each of the following cities: Timisoara, Cluj-Napoca, and Brasov. They will also set up one polling station in each of these cities: Sibiu, Oradea, Targu Mures, Craiova, Suceava, Bacau, Galati, and Constanta.

“The September 28 elections are crucial for the Republic of Moldova’s future. We will elect the parliament that leads us into the European Union. I’m not exaggerating—we have a unique, unrepeatable opportunity to become EU members by the end of this decade,” emphasized Ambassador Victor Chirila.

Moldovan citizens abroad can vote using either their identity cards or passports.

“It’s important that these documents are valid. Therefore, those who need to renew their ID cards or extend their passport validity should visit the consular section of the Moldovan Embassy in Bucharest or the Consulate General in Iasi,” the ambassador added.

The current parliament’s mandate expires on July 11. Voters will head to the polls on September 28 to elect a new parliament, and the official campaign period will start 30 days in advance.
