General Gheorghita Vlad, Romania’s Chief of Defense Staff, said that Romania fully supports the Republic of Moldova in multiple areas, including defense, even though NATO cannot intervene directly because Moldova maintains a neutral status.

Speaking at a joint press conference with General Alexus G. Grynkewich, Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), at the Multinational Corps Southeast Command in Sibiu, General Vlad stressed that Moldova’s neutrality prevents NATO from acting in case of internal conflict or external aggression.

He added that Moldova’s neutrality does not stop authorities from exploring alternative support solutions, such as “coalitions of the willing,” similar to the international cooperation formats used to assist Ukraine.

General Vlad confirmed that Romania will continue providing multidimensional support to Moldova. He said Bucharest will maintain military assistance to strengthen Chisinau’s defense capabilities and ensure that Moldova can respond effectively to any external threats.
