Sergiu Musteata has taken on the role of Secretary-General of the National Commission of the Republic of Moldova (CNRM) for UNESCO, stepping in at a critical time for advancing UNESCO values at both national and international levels. His appointment marks a new chapter for the Commission, which has been actively promoting education, culture, science, and heritage protection since its establishment in September 1993.
A Legacy of Excellence and International Cooperation
According to the Ministry of Culture, under the leadership of former Secretary-General Constantin Rusnac, the Commission played a pivotal role in attracting extra-budgetary resources and building international partnerships for educational and cultural initiatives.

As Secretary-General, Musteață will continue existing programs and strengthen international cooperation, focusing on protecting Moldova’s national heritage. The current security crisis in the region, triggered by the war in Ukraine, underscores the urgency of his mission.
“This Commission plays a crucial role. Given the war in our neighboring country, heritage assets face significant risks. Moldova is collaborating on efforts to safeguard Ukrainian cultural valuables and combat the illicit trafficking of heritage objects,” said Minister Prodan.
