Siegfried Muresan is seeking a new mandate in the European Parliament. He intends to continue supporting Moldova’s integration

MEP Siegfried Muresan has announced that he is officially standing for a new mandate in the European Parliament. He aims to continue defending European values, securing European funds for Romania, representing the interests of Romanians in the European Parliament, and supporting the European integration of the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.

“I am applying for this candidacy because I wish to continue the work I have been doing for the last 10 years in the European Parliament, in the interest of Romanians. Therefore, we must defend it against populist and extremist politicians, and I will continue to do so in my future mandate,” says the MEP.

During his current mandate, he served as the European Parliament’s chief negotiator for three major decisions allocating European funds to Romania. Additionally, he acted as co-rapporteur and negotiated the establishment of the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism on behalf of the European Parliament, which provides €28.5 billion to finance Romania’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan. Furthermore, he is currently serving as the European Parliament’s chief negotiator for the EU Budget in 2024.
