“I am happy to be here, on this day when the Romanian language is celebrated in Chisinau, in Bucharest, but also in many other countries. The International Book Fair Bookfest 2022 proves to us that the Romanian language is and feels at home on both banks of the Prut. Writers from the Republic of Moldova publish their books at publishing houses in Romania: in Bucharest, in Iasi, in Timișoara or in Bistrița. At the same time, Romanian authors find it prestigious to publish books in Chisinau. I appreciate this increasingly concentrated infusion of quality Romanian cultural product in Chisinau. I am also sure that the performance of our creative people, of our artists, is appreciated in the cities of Romania”. This was said by Maia Sandu, President of the Republic of Moldova.
Sergiu Nistor, Presidential Advisor, Department of Culture, Cults and National Minorities, Presidential Administration, Romania, came with a message from the Romanian president, Klaus Iohannis.
“The Bookfest International Fair is an expression of the common cultural space, a materialization of the European aspirations of the Romanians on both banks of the Prut. This true book festival is a powerful symbol of solidarity and hope, a sign so necessary to show that through language and literature, through the traditions that unite us, Romanians have always successfully overcome historical vicissitudes”.
The launch event ended with a tour of the officials through the book fair, where they had the opportunity to get to know the 30 publishing houses present.
