The CEC announces the requirements for candidates who want to participate in the elections

The Central Electoral Commission has announced the requirements for candidates wishing to run in the presidential elections. According to the legislation, candidates must be citizens of the country and at least 40 years old on election day.

Potential candidates must have lived or currently reside in the country for at least ten years, be required to know Romanian, have completed higher education, and must not have a final court conviction for imprisonment. They must also not have unresolved criminal records for intentional crimes and must not lose the right to hold responsible positions by a final court decision.

“The right to nominate candidates for the position of President of the Republic of Moldova belongs to political parties registered before the date the act establishing the presidential election date comes into force, electoral blocs constituted and registered by the Electoral Code, and citizens of the Republic of Moldova who submit their candidacy,” state the officials from the Central Electoral Commission.

Candidates must nominate themselves for the presidential position up to 60 days before the election date and finalize their nomination 30 days before the election. This year, the process starts on August 21, 2024.
