The Constitutional Court (CC) has confirmed the results of Moldova’s national referendum on EU accession. The decision, delivered by CC President Domnica Manole after hours of deliberation, is final and will be published in the Official Journal (Monitorul Oficial). President Manole noted that there were separate opinions from magistrates Sergiu Turcan and Vladimir Turcan.
“The Constitutional Court confirms the results of the 20 October 2024 national constitutional referendum,” Manole announced.
On 26 October, the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) submitted the necessary documents for validating the referendum results to the CC. These included CEC reports on voter participation, official tabulation of ballot results, and an organizational report on the referendum.

Under the Electoral Code, the CC has ten days to review these documents and either confirm or invalidate the referendum results. On 25 October, the CEC declared the referendum valid, approving the official report on vote centralization.
According to the official reports, voter turnout was 50.72%, with 1,532,264 voters receiving ballots. Of the 1,488,874 valid votes cast, 749,719 were in favor (YES), while 739,155 were opposed (NO).
The 20 October 2024 referendum asked citizens: “Do you support amending the Constitution for Moldova’s accession to the European Union?”
The proposed constitutional amendment would add two new paragraphs, reaffirming Moldova’s European identity and the irreversibility of its European integration. It also designates EU integration as a strategic goal for the country.
President Maia Sandu initiated the referendum. The proposal to amend the Constitution was signed by 46 MPs and approved by the Constitutional Court.
