The Czech Republic is ready to share with the Republic of Moldova from its experience, the good practices of joining the EU, and to offer support in the organization of the second Summit of the European Political Community in Chisinau. This was conveyed to the president of the country, Maia Sandu, today, October 19, by the president of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, Markéta Pekarová Adamová, who is on a working visit to our country from October 17-19.
The two leaders discussed the next steps in the Euro-integration process, including the efforts of the authorities to implement the nine recommendations formulated by the EU, when it granted Moldova the status of candidate country for accession. Justice reform and the fight against corruption remain priorities on the government’s agenda.
In this context, Maia Sandu emphasized the need for the introduction, by the EU, of tough and clear sanctions for acts of corruption, no matter in which country they happen. Cleaning up the judiciary and convicting thieves would strengthen people’s belief that democracy and the rule of law can produce results.
