The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will provide financial support for the modernization of the railway infrastructure in the Republic of Moldova.
The Parliament approved the ratification of a loan agreement in the amount of 23 million euros in its plenary session today.
The loan will be provided in two installments, accompanied by a 20 million euro grant from the European Commission.
These funds will be used for repairing the railway corridor Vălcineț – Ocnița – Bălți – Ungheni – Chișinău – Căinari, aiming to attract more freight and increase passenger numbers by improving train speed and reducing travel time.
The loan has a 15-year term, and the agreement was ratified on June 27, 2023, in Chișinău.
