The European Parliament will adopt a support resolution for Moldova at the beginning of September

At the beginning of September, the European Parliament will adopt a new resolution to support the Republic of Moldova—an unprecedented move. Vice President of the European Parliament, Victor Negrescu, made the announcement during the Moldova ZOOM program on RFI, according to MOLDPRES.

“This is something unprecedented, because usually the European Parliament hesitates to adopt such documents close to electoral moments. But we decided to make this exception because, in fact, within the European Parliament, almost all political groups include strong, influential voices that support Moldova’s European path and understand what is happening there,” said Negrescu.

He explained that the resolution will sound the alarm about foreign interference from the Russian Federation and highlight the continued use of substantial funds to manipulate electoral outcomes. Through this resolution, the European Parliament will also express its support for implementing the Growth Plan, emphasize that Moldova is very close to joining the European Union, and underscore Europe’s efforts to support Moldovan children, assist seniors, and reduce energy bills in the country.

“I believe this resolution is necessary, especially in the context of ongoing negotiations regarding the war in Ukraine. So I think this signal from the European Parliament will be welcome at a key moment, and I believe it will show the citizens of the Republic of Moldova that they must stand firm in their vote to support the pro-European path,” Negrescu added.
