The Government of the Republic of Moldova approved today the draft law for the ratification of the Agreement between Moldova and the Kingdom of the Netherlands on paid employment for family members of diplomatic and consular staff. Officials from both countries signed the agreement in Chisinau on August 21, 2025.

The agreement facilitates access to the labor market for family members of diplomats on mission, based on the principle of reciprocity. It allows spouses and dependents to work legally in the host country for the entire duration of the diplomatic posting.

The agreement applies to the families of staff members from both the Embassy of Moldova in the Netherlands and the Embassy of the Netherlands in Chișinău, strengthening the legal framework that supports diplomatic relations between the two states.

Moldova has already signed similar agreements with the United States, Germany, France, Romania, Canada, Turkey, Poland, Hungary, Belgium, Portugal, and Sweden, and is currently negotiating comparable arrangements with India and Spain.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the agreement does not entail financial obligations and requires no amendments to national legislation. Its goal is to promote social integration and enhance bilateral relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

The Republic of Moldova and the Netherlands established diplomatic relations on July 10, 1992. To date, the two countries have concluded 20 treaties and bilateral agreements covering areas such as investment protection, international road transport, readmission, and the avoidance of double taxation and tax evasion.
