During a government meeting, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the appointment of the new Consuls General of the Republic of Moldova in Italy and the United States.
Vadim Zmeu has been appointed Consul General in Padua, Italy. A career diplomat with the rank of minister-counselor, Zmeu has extensive experience in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, holding leadership positions at the central office and in diplomatic missions.
Currently, he serves as the acting head of the Consular Affairs Directorate, overseeing consular policies and managing diplomatic missions. Previously, he was head of the Legal and Consular Relations Section, consul in Padua, and at the General Consulate in Bologna. Throughout his career, he has contributed to modernizing consular services and strengthening relations with the diaspora.

Anton Lungu has been appointed Consul General in Chicago, USA. A career diplomat with extensive experience in international relations, he will coordinate consular activities and strengthen ties between Moldovan authorities and the diaspora. With a strong background in economic diplomacy and transatlantic relations, Lungu has the expertise to transform the new consulate into an active support and collaboration center for Moldovans in the United States.
Maxim Arghir has been appointed Consul General in Sacramento, USA. With vast experience in consular affairs and international relations, he has worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in diplomatic missions in the United States and Italy, playing a key role in improving consular services and strengthening Moldova’s ties with its diaspora.
Additionally, during the meeting on Wednesday, March 19, Diana Salcutan, former deputy head of the General Inspectorate of the Border Police, was appointed State Secretary at the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI).
