President Maia Sandu met today, February 3, with the President of the Riigikogu of Estonia, Lauri Hussar, the Speaker of the Saeima of Latvia, Daiga Mierina, and the Speaker of the Seimas of Lithuania, Juozas Olekas. This marked the first joint official visit to Moldova by the heads of parliament of the three Baltic states in this format and sent a strong signal of support for Moldova European path.

The head of state highlighted the excellent relations with the three countries and their firm support for the Republic of Moldova. The talks focused in particular on the process of accession to the European Union.

The experience of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania demonstrates the clear benefits of European integration, including stronger democracy, faster economic development, higher living standards, and efficient and transparent public institutions. Economic data illustrate the success of their European trajectory. In Estonia, the average gross salary increased more than fourfold and GDP per capita grew 3.5 times. In Latvia, the average gross salary increased almost fivefold and GDP per capita rose 2.5 times. In Lithuania, the average gross salary increased nearly sevenfold and GDP per capita grew fourfold.

The discussions also addressed the regional security situation. President Sandu expressed Moldova gratitude for the solidarity shown by the Baltic states toward Ukraine. The participants exchanged views on ways to counter risks generated by hybrid warfare, including cyberattacks, disinformation, and external interference targeting democratic processes.
