Prime Minister Dorin Recean and the head of the Diplomacy of the Republic of Moldova, Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, have conveyed messages of congratulations and gratitude in light of the news that, as of January 1, 2024, Belgium takes over the rotating presidency of the European Union from Spain for six months.
On November 14, 2023, negotiations for the accession of Moldova and Ukraine to the EU were initiated. The decision was made at the European Council. It was voted on jointly with Ukraine, despite Hungarian Prime Minister Orban’s assertion that such a decision contradicted the interests of his country.
Congratulations Belgium & FM @hadjalahbib on assuming the EU helm for 6 months!

Grateful to 🇪🇸@sanchezcastejon for supporting us on our EU integration path during @eu2023es as we managed to open EU accession talks.
International media reported that Scholz had sent Orban to have a coffee while the negotiations were being voted on. Therefore, in the absence of one member, the decision was considered approved, under EU provisions.
Currently, Chisinau is establishing an office to handle European integration, sending more diplomats and negotiators to Brussels, with the ultimate goal of the country’s accession to the EU by 2030.
