Moldova’s senior and youth Shotokan karate team won 5 gold, three silver, and six bronze medals at the European Championships in Debrecen, Hungary. Thus, our country was on the podium for the first time in the ranking by nations, being surpassed by Romania and Hungary, announcing the National Olympic and Sports Committee.
“The leader of the team, Vitalii Spinu, won three medals. He won the gold medal in individual kumite, ippon shobu, +80 kg, beating Radu Bogdan 5-0 in the final. In this event, the podium was completed by Sandu Gazea. Other gold medals went to Anastasia Spinu, Mihail Volontir, Daniel Mutelica, and Maxim Gutu. In the last act, they defeated athletes from Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, and Romania,” the committee’s message reads.
