The so-called elections held on the left bank of the Nistru River challenge Moldova’s sovereignty, representatives of the Bureau for Reintegration Policies told Realitatea.

Authorities in Chisinau underline that the process occurred outside the constitutional framework. They state that these actions violate current legislation.

“We reiterate that such alleged electoral exercises occur outside the constitutional framework and contradict the legislation of the Republic of Moldova, and therefore we cannot legally recognize them. We regard and will continue to regard such actions as challenges to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova,” the Bureau for Reintegration Policies stated.

On Sunday, residents on the left bank voted to elect members of the so-called Supreme Soviet in Tiraspol. According to the separatist authorities, of the roughly 395,000 people registered on the voter lists, about 102,000 participated in the alleged elections.
