“The People of Wine” appreciated with medals and distinctions, on the National Wine Day

The “Grand Prize” in the field of wine for 2022 was offered to the winery “Purcari”, for special merits in the manufacture of high-quality wines, the perpetuation of the traditions and excellent quality of local wines, as well as the promotion of the image of the Republic of Moldova as a wine country in the international arena. The prize was awarded during the opening ceremony of the 21st edition of the National Wine Day.

“Purcari” is one of the largest wineries in the Central and Eastern Europe region, has almost 300 medals in its record and is the largest exporter of wines from Moldova, delivering to over 40 countries.

The “Nicolae Guzun” medal and the “Winegrower of the year” title went to Andrei Covali, from “Vinăria de Vale”. The distinction was given to the academician for special merits in the cultivation of the vine, the implementation of advanced technologies in the wine sector, the establishment of new wine plantations, intended for the production of wine products with a Protected Geographical Indication.

The “Petru Ungureanu” medal, which bears the name of the Moldovan scientist known for numerous inventions in wine production technology, as well as the title of “most skilled oenologist of the year” went to Victor Răilean, from the “Sălcuța” winery.

Medal of gratitude “Wine of Moldova. A Living Legend”, was offered to the Mircești Winery, for special merits in the field of development and promotion of wine-tourism.

Moreover, this year a trophy of gratitude was presented to the Agency for International Development USAID, for the strategic partnership and continuous support, since 2005, of the wine industry.

With the support of USAID, the country brand “Wine of Moldova” was created, extensive wine quality improvement programs were developed, the Moldavian Wine Route was created, accredited at the European level, the Moldovan Wine Vernissage was created, and many other industry development and promotion activities.

The 21st edition of the National Wine Day is organized by the National Vine and Wine Office (ONVV), with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry and USAID Moldova.
