The President of the Parliament of Moldova talked with the Deputy Secretary General of NATO, Mircea Geoană

During his visit to Brussels, the President of the Parliament, Igor Grosu, has a meeting with the Deputy General Secretary of NATO, Mircea Geoană, the Directorate of Communication and Public Relations of the Legislature reports.

In the press statement at the end of the meeting, Igor Grosu mentioned that over the years, NATO has stood by the Republic of Moldova and promoted democracy and stability in our country, and noted with satisfaction that in the last year, our cooperation has increased. We have a specific program for Moldova, starting from our needs.

In the last two years, we have made progress in the field of defense, and due to the support we receive from NATO countries and the European Union noted the Head of the Legislature.

He said that Moldova is a state that woke up overnight on the border with Russia’s war in Ukraine and that was faced with the reality of strengthening its defense system. I always say it to the citizens, and I say it here: we understand that a neutral country needs a strong defense system, and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine demonstrated this once again. Moreover, since the beginning of the war, Russia has intensified hybrid attacks against our country. And in this chapter, we are making efforts to increase our resilience in terms of cyber security and countering foreign disinformation actions. We appreciate here the enormous support from our partners, the speaker added.

I also mention that we started an extensive reform process in the country on all dimensions, especially in justice, fighting corruption, strengthening state institutions, and diversifying energy sources. At the same time, the Republic of Moldova, being a candidate country for joining the European Union, has all our institutions trained to fulfill the nine conditionalities of the European Commission and to open negotiations by the end of the year, revealed Igor Grosu.

Through the development of our country, we also contribute to security in the region. That’s why we still need all the support and expertise from NATO to maintain peace in our country and strengthen our defense capacity. We are determined to strengthen this historic partnership with NATO. Moldova needs strong friends in these times, and we assure you that we are a serious partner because we are primarily talking about the security and safety of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova and the entire continent, summed up the President of the Parliament.
