The National Center for Sustainable Energy reported that the country installed an additional 58.75 MW of new capacity in the first quarter of 2026, bringing total capacity to 1,039.74 MW.

Photovoltaic power plants contributed 51.43 MW of the new capacity, wind farms added 6 MW, and biogas installations contributed 1.32 MW.

At the end of March 2026, solar energy remained the dominant renewable source. It reached a total installed capacity of 759.79 MW, representing 73% of all renewable electricity capacity. Wind power reached 254.72 MW (24%), biogas reached 8.475 MW (2%), and hydropower accounted for 16.75 MW (1%).

Over the past five years, Moldova increased its installed renewable energy capacity by 13.23 times, showing a rapid shift toward green energy sources.

The country set a target to reach 30% renewable energy in electricity consumption and 27% in total final energy consumption by 2030. In 2024, renewables accounted for 16.7% of electricity consumption, and authorities estimated that this share could rise to 27% by 2026.
