The accredited ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Moldova, Oleg Ozerov, expressed dissatisfaction after authorities in Chisinau refused to allow him to visit Evghenia Gutul in prison.
According to statements from the Russian diplomatic mission published by TASS, the request was presented as being based on “humanitarian considerations.” The embassy claimed that the refusal violates international norms and diplomatic practices.
The diplomatic representatives argued that such visits are consistent with international human rights frameworks, including OSCE commitments, and criticized the decision of the Moldovan authorities as inconsistent with declared European values.
They also accused Western partners and their allies of applying “double standards” in similar cases.
The request for the visit was submitted through diplomatic channels by Ambassador Ozerov, but the National Administration of Penitentiaries of Moldova rejected it.
