The separatist authorities in Tiraspol have extended the state of economic emergency

The economic state of emergency in the Transnistrian region has been extended for another 30 days until April 9, 2025, according to IPN.

The separatist authorities in Tiraspol report that the situation with natural gas deliveries remains unstable, with the current volumes not being enough to meet the needs of industrial businesses. The economic emergency has been in effect since December 2024.

In January, residents of Transnistria faced cold and darkness after Gazprom stopped supplying gas, even through alternative routes that avoided Ukraine. In early February, the European Union granted Moldova 30 million euros, with 20 million euros allocated for gas purchases for the left bank of the Dniester.

Later, the EU offered an additional 60 million euros in support to Tiraspol, but only if the separatist authorities agreed to gradually adjust their tariffs to market levels. However, the autonomist leaders rejected this offer and secured a 50 million dollar loan from Russia to buy gas until mid-March.

Beginning March 1, 2025, the tariffs for gas, electricity, water, and heating in the region will almost double. The separatist authorities attribute this increase to the gas transit through multiple countries.
