The Rubicon Ultramarathon 2025 will take place between the capitals of Romania and the Republic of Moldova from February 28 to March 2, covering a distance of 482 kilometers. According to the Ministry of Education and Research (MEC), the event happened last year.
“The route is divided into 46 stages, ranging from 6 to 15 km, and crosses 10 regions from both countries. Participants can run one or more stages, depending on their personal goals and physical preparation.
For each stage completed in a county or district, runners will receive a medal featuring the region’s coat of arms. Those who reach the 100 km mark will receive an additional medal with the ‘Rubicon’ emblem,” said MEC.

The Rubicon Ultramarathon is a major sports event that unites high-performance athletes from both sides of the Prut River.
“By participating in this competition, runners not only test their strength and endurance but also actively contribute to strengthening the ties between Romania and the Republic of Moldova, both in sports and culture,” the Ministry further emphasizes.
The first edition of the Rubicon Ultramarathon took place in 2024 and gathered over 200 runners at the start. This large-scale event is the result of a sports cooperation agreement between Romania and the Republic of Moldova.
The main goal is to promote mass sports on both sides of the Prut River, strengthening cultural and sports connections between the two countries.
