To facilitate grain transit: Chisinau authorities intend to build three berths on the Prut River

Moldova intends to build at least three temporary berths on the Prut River to transport more goods by water. This was announced by Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Vladimir Bolia at a meeting in Galati dedicated to grain exports, including Ukrainian grain, Europa Liberă radio reported.

“These temporary berths will make life much easier for our agrarians because it is one thing when you load 1,500 tons on a ship and quite another when you transport the same 1,500, but with 22 tons each. You can imagine how many vehicles, expenses, and queues at customs will be reduced by using maritime transport,” Vladimir Bolia told Europa Liberă.

The official emphasized that the cost difference between land and sea transport would be enormous. He also noted that to facilitate the transportation and transit of grain, including Ukrainian grain, in addition to the construction of berths, it is necessary to repair railroads, and the authorities are currently looking for funds for this.

Volodymyr Bolya expressed hope that the berths on the Prut will start working in the fall of this year, and the money for their construction will be allocated from European funds.
