Prime Minister-designate Vasile Tofan and Our Party leader Renato Usatii have offered conflicting accounts after a scheduled consultation between Tofan and the party’s parliamentary faction failed to take place.

Tofan said he arrived just one minute late for the meeting, which had been scheduled for 12:30 p.m., but found that the MPs had already left.

He explained that his previous meeting with farmers had lasted longer than expected and apologized for the delay.

“I was one minute late for the consultations with the faction led by Mr. Usatii after my previous meeting with farmers exceeded the allocated time. I regret that this delay prompted Mr. Usatii and his colleagues to leave,” Tofan wrote on social media.

The prime minister-designate added that citizens expect political leaders to solve problems constructively rather than engage in political theatrics and expressed hope that both sides would find another opportunity to discuss issues important to the public.

Usatii, however, disputed Tofan’s version of events. In a video posted on social media, he said the meeting had been scheduled for 12:30 p.m., that the MPs arrived early, and that they left at 12:34 because no one from Tofan’s team was present.

The Our Party leader also criticized the prime minister-designate for allegedly coming to consultations without presenting a government programme or a list of proposed ministers.

“As someone who comes from the business environment, he should know that in business you present a plan and a programme,” Usatii said, accusing the authorities of poor organization.

The consultation did not take place, and neither side announced whether a new meeting would be scheduled.
