Tudor Ulianovschi, former Foreign Minister in the PDM government, officially announced his candidacy for this year’s presidential elections in August. He is running as an independent candidate. He was born on May 26, 1983, in Floresti. Ulianovschi is married and has three children. He speaks Romanian, Russian and English.
He studied law at the Free International University of Moldova. Between 2002 and 2003, he was a scholar of the International Academic Program of the United States Government, Kentucky, USA. Subsequently, he also completed a Master’s degree in Law at ULIM.
Mr. Ulianovschi started his diplomatic career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova in 2005, working in the Americas, Asia, Middle East, and Africa Directorate. Two years later, he moved to the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in the United States of America, Washington. He then returned to MAIE from 2010 to 2011. In 2013, he was Chargé d’Affaires at the Moldovan Embassy in the State of Qatar. After 2014, Mr. Ulianovschi returned to the country. He assumed the position of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova, overseeing economic diplomacy, international economic relations, and bilateral relations. In March 2016, Moldova appointed him its Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office, the World Trade Organization, and other international organizations in Geneva. In June 2016, Ulianovschi assumed the role of Ambassador to the Swiss Confederation and the Principality of Liechtenstein, based in Geneva, under the Filip’s government.

Tudor Ulianovschi, for a long time, did not want to confess to rumors that he intends to run in this year’s presidential elections, but frequent appearances on TV and online have “unmasked” him. Last August, the diplomat officially announced that he was entering the race and would not join any party.
In 2023, according to the declaration of assets and personal interests, Ulianovschi raised more than 2.8 million lei salary, equivalent to 220,000 Canadian dollars, from the firm Grasshopper Energy Canada. For legal services, from the firm Mission 2050, Ulianovschi obtained almost half a million lei. The Ulianovschi family received €5,400 in childcare allowance from Romania and 100,000 lei from Moldova. The candidate owns a real estate acquired in 2019 for 1,031,955 lei. In his statement, Ulianovschi also indicated that he has nine bank accounts, three in lei, four in euros, and two in Canadian dollars. In terms of debts, the Ulianovschi family has 600,000 lei to repay by 2030. The family took out the loan in 2023.
