Ukrainian President Urges Complete Russian Troop Withdrawal in Moldova Address

A ceasefire without the complete withdrawal of Russian troops and weapons from the entire territory of Ukraine will only create a temporary pause in the course of the war, said the President of the Supreme Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, before Moldovan deputies. The official, who is on a working visit to the Republic of Moldova, also stated that Moscow would use this pause to regroup and strengthen its forces for a stronger attack on our territory in the future.

“Since the beginning of the war, Ukrainian citizens with Moldovan roots have also gone to the front. One of them was born in Chisinau, who, before being killed by Russian bullets, shouted ‘Slava Ukrainî.’ Soldiers like him defend our freedom. They understand that this is our common war, and our victory over the aggressor will be shared. Although the brutal war continues, we hope for a just, lasting, and comprehensive peace every day. We understand that a ceasefire without the complete withdrawal of Russian troops and weapons from the entire territory of Ukraine will only create a temporary pause in the course of the war. This will be used by the aggressor to regroup and strengthen forces for a stronger attack on our territory in the future. If we were to replace the ugly reality of war with the ugly reality of occupation and call it peace, we would not solve the problem, but only deepen it. We will pass on this duty to future generations,” said the Ukrainian official.

The only way to restore and establish respect for the principles of the UN Charter is the peace formula proposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“We already see that it is gaining more and more support and gradually acquiring a global character. Recent global events have shown that more and more institutions and countries around the world understand the urgency of our peace plan as an alternative to ending the war. We want to organize a global summit at the level of heads of state and government as well as leaders of international institutions.”

At the same time, the Ukrainian official thanked Moldovans who showed solidarity at the beginning of the war.

“For over 20 months, Ukraine has been living the reality of an aggressive large-scale war waged by Russia, defending its right to an independent country. During this period, we have felt and continue to feel the support of the neighboring country, Moldova. Moldovan citizens have shown their true love for their fellow countrymen, many of them have been involved in helping Ukraine. I sincerely thank the people of Moldova because from the first day of the war, you opened your borders and homes to tens of thousands of Ukrainian women and children fleeing Russian terror. I express my sincere gratitude to each of you.”

From November 30 to December 1, 2023, the head of the Ukrainian legislature is on an official visit to the Republic of Moldova. This is Ruslan Stefanchuk’s first visit to Chisinau as the President of the Supreme Rada of Kiev. The official delivered a speech in the Parliament of Chisinau.
