105th Anniversary of the Great Union: Moldova Expresses Gratitude and Solidarity towards Romania

Today, the Republic of Moldova commemorates the 105th anniversary of the Great Union on December 1, 1918, a significant historical event that marked the completion of the Romanian national state. This union of the historical Romanian provinces of Basarabia, Bucovina, and Transylvania with Romania was a crucial step in consolidating the national identity.

On this occasion, the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, conveyed a message of gratitude to Romania, describing it as a “pillar of resilience” and “the staunchest advocate on our European path.” She emphasized the close ties between the two countries, highlighting the importance of language, history, and shared culture.

“Romania is loved in the Republic of Moldova for constant assistance, but, more importantly, for the things that unite us – the language passed down with love from parents, the history from which we learn multiple lessons of dignity, and the culture that builds the most steadfast bridges,” President Sandu stated in a message posted on social media.

She also underscored concrete gestures of solidarity and support provided by Romania over the years, such as the emergency medical assistance through SMURD and aid during the pandemic crisis. The president’s message concluded with the assurance that Moldova can always rely on Romania’s support and trust in building a common future within the European Union.
